Abstrakty

Zadaniem pracy jest analiza zmian w wymianie handlowej Polski z UE i CEFTA w latach 1995-2002, oraz wskazanie ewentualnych skutków zawarcia przez Polskę umów o wolnym handlu z tymi grupami krajów.

Poland's trade with the European Union and CEFFA in the years 1995-2002 exhibited an growing trend. An increase in export growth was noted particularly during the period following the introduction of a free trade zone for industrial goods, which may be identified as a positive effect of liberalisation and integration. A problem was the persistent negative trade balance, both with the EU countries as well as CEFTA, while in the first half of the examined period the deficit exhibited an upward trend (the largest deficit was observed in 1998) and in the second half- a downward trend. Significant changes in the geographical and goods structure of Poland's international trade did not occur, especially compared to the significant reconfiguration in trade at the beginning of the 1990s. Poland's main trading partner in the EU was Germany, and in CEFTA - the Czech Republic. Their share in trade gradually decreased in favour of the other countries, yet greater changes in this area are to be expected over the long term. The dominant group of goods in trade with these countries was industrial articles, in particular, machines and installations as well as automobiles. In the researched period, an increase was observed in the intensity of intra-branch trade with the European Union. In the case of most of the analysed goods groups, intra-branch trade exceeded 50% of total volume. The development of intra-branch trade may have a positive impact on Poland's competitiveness after accession to the European Union. (original abstract)
