The Identification of Changes in the Trend-Stochastic Structure of Macroeconomic Processes during a Period of Transformation

Abstrakty
Macroeconomic processes observed during the transformation of the Polish economy from a centrally planned economy to its market counterpart are extremely interesting from the point of view of econometric modeling; at the same time, they create multiple methodological problems. The intention of this article is to try to identify changes which took place in the trend-stochastic structure of select macroeconomic processes, observed quarterly from 1972 to 1992. In this case, the econometric problem can be formulated as the discovery of a suitable moment for the appearance of a change in the structure, and as the identification of the very nature of transformations within the non-stationary nature of the processes under examination. The application of a research instrument in the form of Dickey-Fuller mobile test in the Perron test which serves the identification of structural transformations enabled us to distinguish sub-periods in which those changes became particularly marked. The Perron test also made it feasible - as regards particular processes - to indicate moments when changes took place, and to define the type of the free expression of the linear trend function and a correction of the coefficient of the directional trend model.
