Abstrakty

W pierwszej części artykułu przedstawiono makroekonomiczny kontekst rozwoju regionów Anglii. Następnie omówiono dynamikę wzrostu gospodarczego w regionach. Na końcu pokazano przestrzenne zróżnicowanie stopy bezrobocia i zamieszczono syntetyczną ocenę zmian.

The purpose of this article is to show the dynamics of regional development in England as seen against the background of the macroeconomic conditions of the United Kingdom and European cohesion policy. The first part illuminates the economic situation of Great Britain; it shows the process of modernisation resulting from the liberal economic policy of successive governments as well as integration with the European Communities. In the second part of the article, the author presents the allocation of European funds in England in the years 1994-1999 and then analyses the changes in GDP and unemployment in the respective regions. This research shows that under conditions of relatively rapid development of the entire country, differentiation with respect to GDP per capita intensified, while with respect to unemployment these differences were limited.
