Research on human resource management (HRM) practices and policies in large companies is well developed. However, relatively little has been done to help managers of small enterprises to deal with their employees. Due to the specificity of small businesses, the concepts originally being developed for larger enterprises can not directly be introduced in SMEs In our paper we focus on exploring and analyzing the HRM practices in Polish small enterprises through normative theory lenses. We used a two-fold research approach for the empirical part of this paper. In a first step, we have interviewed 193 owners and managers of companies employing less then 50 people (small enterprises) from Poland in a quantitative survey. After having calculated the results of the first stage of our research, we have conducted the second part of the study, where six owners of small enterprises have been interviewed qualitatively. Unstructured interviews have been used in order to better understand conclusions drawn from the quantitative research from the first stage. To our surprise, we were not able to identify many differences between our findings and results obtained from the data collected in the market-based economies. (original abstract)
Badania nad praktykami i politykami zarządzania zasobami ludzkimi w dużych firmach są dobrze rozwinięte. Mało jednak wysiłków poczyniono, by pomóc w tym zakresie menedżerom małych firm.
