Omówiono bieżące rozwiązania, jakie dominują obecnie na rynku elektronicznych form płatności. Określono aspekty ich rozwoju oraz podjęto próbę odpowiedzi na pytanie, czy nadchodzi czas supremacji pieniądza wirtualnego.

The huge leap forward in the development of modern information technologies has brought us many changes, including the "virtualisation" of business activities. This article is devoted to the growing popularity of new, electronic forms of financial settlement. Besides describing electronic money and its advantages and disadvantages, the author also reviews various domestic and foreign payment services, while emphasising the special significance of electronic banking in Poland. In the second part of the article, the author presents the opportunities and threats tu the development of modern payment forms, taking into account both promising data on their development around the globe as well as the numerous social barriers that exist to this development. In the conclusion, the author evaluates the prospects for the development of e-money by positing the thesis that a period of dominance of electronic money is inevitably approaching.(original abstract)
