Abstrakty
W artykule podjęto próbę analizy metodologicznych problemów dotyczących studiów nad integracją europejską i europeistyką. Dokonano charakterystyki podstawowego przedmiotu badań obydwu dyscyplin, czyli fenomenu Unii Europejskiej. Przedstawiono Unię Europejską jako uczestnika stosunków międzynarodowych.
This paper analyses the methodological problems of European studies and the study of European integration. It takes up the task of characterizing the basic subject investigated by both disciplines - the European Union in its international dimension. The paper claims that the Union's salient feature as an actor on the global scene is its immense complexity, uniqueness and indeterminacy. The EU as a structure in statu nascendi is undergoing constant change; the EU is a process rather than an accomplished state The author arrives at the conclusion that the EU does not yield to the precise classification which applies traditional tools employed by social science and the humanities. Any evaluation or analysis of the European Union is made more difficult since it is not a homogenous structure in the institutional, legal and functional dimension. The problem in defining the research area is responsible for the lack of appropriate research instruments. This, in turn, makes an academic analysis of the European Union more difficult.
