Abstrakty

W artykule przedstawiono zagadnienie badań nad integracją europejską. Autor twierdzi, iż badania te powinny uwzględniać bogaty dorobek historyczno-kulturowy poszczególnych państw i całego kontynentu europejskiego. Ze wspólnego dorobku kultur narodowych tworzy się wspólne dziedzictwo kulturowe Europy, odróżniające ja od innych kontynentów.

The study of European integration should include the rich historical and cultural heritage of each state individually and of the European continent as a whole, is the theme argued for in this paper. It is the joint output of national cultures which makes up the common cultural heritage of Europe, and in turn, this is what determines the burgeoning identity of the European Union. According to the author, European cultural and civilizational heritage embraces: the cultural heritage of ancient Greece, Roman law and the Roman model of state organization, Christian universalism, the nation-state, established rules of democracy, and the advanced civil society. In an evaluation of the historical and cultural aspects of the integration process, one has to notice the following circumstances: the changing European situation, the varying clout of member-states, national, religious and language divisions, the specific system of Community power, the level of development of member states, and the personalities of European leaders. This paper demonstrates that the development of European integration is influenced by economic, social and political factors, as well as the continent's rich historical and cultural heritage.
