W artykule przedstawiono metodologiczne rozważania dotyczące pracy doktorskiej autora. Praca ta jest analizą źródeł i konsekwencji wciąż nieuregulowanej kwestii cypryjskiej oraz jej wpływu na sytuację wewnętrzną Unii Europejskiej. Rozprawa jest jednocześnie uzupełnieniem polskiego wkładu w rozwój szeroko definiowanych studiów europejskich.
This doctoral thesis represents a thorough analysis of the sources and consequences of the still-unregulated Cyprus question and its impact on the situation inside the EU. In the face of accession talks with the Republic of Turkey, the dispute between the two Cypriot communities is taking on a peculiar significance, thereby rendering this thesis topical and relevant. At the same time, this work is yet another Polish contribution into European studies, in the large sense of the term. The structure of the work, the methods employed and the form of expressing the hypotheses and research questions can be used in the study of other international disputes. The time framework of the thesis covers the period 1974-2007, including the actual division of Cyprus and the proposals for regulating the conflict. The work contains a historical outline and prognosis of the various scenarios of future events on the island. The basic hypothesis assumes that the interests of Cypriot Greeks and Cypriot Turks are mutually exclusive, thus ruling out a compromise, and requiring the involvement of a third party in the process of regulating the Cypriot question. Research procedures used in this work include the inductive and comparative method, as well as the genetic method which facilitates the search for more complex causes other than the simple relationships stemming from the sequence of time. In the final part of the work, the author confirms the validity of the research hypothesis adopted, providing answers to the questions raised in the outset. (original abstract)
