Abstrakty

Artykuł stanowi przyczynek do dyskusji na temat związków pomiędzy celami gospodarczymi i społecznymi we współczesnym świecie. Omawia wspólne wyzwania przed zatrudnieniem i polityką społeczną w państwach członkowskich. Przybliża cele strategii lizbońskiej.

The European Union does not have clear competences in the area of social policy. On the other hand, the EU member states are facing similar problems and challenges, including ageing of the population and changes in the economy and society. As a result, social objectives have been placed in the centre of the main Community strategy in the context of an economic strategy. The Lisbon Strategy is an attempt to combine economic and social objectives within one strategy. It includes such social objectives as high employment level, education ("knowledge-based economy") and social cohesion. The objectives of the Lisbon Strategy have not been reached yet and the EU faces further challenges. One crucial challenge remains probably a deep reform of the European Social Model. Many new member states, including Poland, have made structural reforms of their social security systems, especially of the pension systems. The "soft" method of policy implementation: open method of coordination, gives a chance to use experience of other countries in the area of social reforms.(original abstract)
