As a result of the development of technology, globalization and unification of economies knowledge is no longer viewed as an expression of human thought but is identified with the company's resources - part of its production potential. The success of the company is increasingly dependent on its intellectual resources - so called corporate knowledge composed of all elements related to human factors, which, to a large extent, determine company policies, enabling businesses to gain a competitive advantage on the market. In view of the on-going process of integration, a significant role is played by employees' mobility; it affects the company's competitiveness as well as its value. The paper presents the environment and mechanisms of the migrations in search of employment in view of the selected theoretical concepts. It discusses the relations between HR management and the company's market value on the basis of Human Capital Index, Human Capital Return on Investment as well as other indicators which measure the effectiveness of HR management. The paper also investigates the factors which affect employees' mobility and the company's value. The author carries out his analysis on the basis of his own research on society's space- and qualification-related mobility, EU reports as well as the results of research conducted by the consulting companies - PricewaterhouseCoopers, Deloitte&Touche, and Watson Wyatt.
