Zaprezentowano otoczenie procesu, jakim była droga Polski do Unii Europejskiej. Zwrócono uwagę na motywy i cele poszczególnych decyzji (Polski i Unii). Przypomniano kwestię dyskusji "monetarystów' z "ekonomistami" i podjęto próbę rozważenia , czy w Polsce taka dyskusja miała miejsce.

The paper presents Poland's transformation, which started in 1989, followed by the country's accession to the EU, and the would-be introduction of the Euro. It discusses the objectives of Poland's policies from the perspective of the accession process, and also refers to the burden inherited from the previous political system. The analysis runs parallel to commentaries related to the debates held by economists and monetarists in the early phase of the monetary integration in the European Communities. From this perspective, the author discusses the political goals of Poland's accession to the EU. It is stated that the EU will act as a guarantor of continuing the reforms commenced in 1989, as well as an accelerator of reforms in those areas which arouse the feeling of social mistrust. An analysis has also been carried out of the attitudes and objectives set by the two major members of the Communities and the EU - Germany and France, indicating the initial political differences between those countries, which gradually diminished in the course of integration processes. The paper is concluded by an analysis of the objectives and expectations related to the choice of one of two ways of monetary integration, and the analysis of the structural convergence seems to indicate the necessity of adopting the eclectic approach.
