Management of a product in the phase of growth and maturity requires not only a historical and current analysis of sales dynamics but also of its reasons. One of the key ways to accomplish this aim is a diagnosis of a product's market potential and of how much it is used by an enterprise. Even the best product strategy will not bring the expected results unless the basic assumption that a product should be available for a customer is fulfilled. This article deals with methods of evaluating a distribution gap between the possible and the accomplished level of the product's presence in distribution channels, diagnosis of the reasons for such a situation and the principles of devising improvement strategies when the market potential of the product is not fully utilized.
