SMEs constitute a vital element of economic processes in today economy, so one could think that they could play important role in the processes of creating innovations. It is recognized that implementing innovative solutions has a key role for SME development and often constitute a particular "to be or not to be" for SME. This unique innovative imperative seems to be stronger in the case of SME in comparison with larger business units. This article is an attempt to systemize the most important ideas related to the factors affecting the innovativeness of SMEs from the point of view of the size of the firm on innovative activity.
