Przybliżono historię powstania Europejskiego Banku Inwestycyjnego. Przedstawiono dane dotyczące pożyczek udzielanych przez EIB krajom Unii Europejskiej. Omówiono warunki finansowania przez Europejski Bank Inwestycyjny pożyczek globalnych i indywidualnych.

The European Investment Bank (EIB), the financing institution of the European Union, was created by the Treaty of Rome and its primary task is to contribute towards the integration, balanced development and economic and social cohesion of the Member Countries. Nowadays, one of the Bank's operational priorities is implementation of the Innovation 2010 Initiative (i2i). As there is a noticeable technological and social-economic distance between old and new Member Countries, the EIB intends the new initiative to concentrate on three priority areas: education and training, R&D and downstream investment, creation and dissemination of information and communication technologies (ICT). Thanks to the EIB Group's support for i2i-targeted sectors, which will amount to well over EUR 50 billion by the end of 2010, Poland has an unique opportunity to raise substantial funds on R&D related expenditures (infrastructure development, scientific and technological equipment acquisition, financing of training and research programmes, patents) and to become more technologically advanced country.
