Abstrakty

Artykuł nakreśla międzynarodowy dyskurs akademicki dotyczący organizacji administracyjno-funkcjonalnej obszarów metropolitalnych. Podejmowane kwestie to istota tzw. problemu metropolitalnego oraz bogactwo rozwiązań tegoż problemu proponowanych przez różne szkoły myśli administracyjno-politycznej. Autorka śledzi rozwój koncepcji dotyczących zarządzania metropolitalnego w XX wieku, prezentując w szczególności polemiki toczone wokół zalet i wad poszczególnych rozwiązań. Rozważania wzbogacają ilustracje zaczerpnięte z doświadczeń europejskich i amerykańskich obszarów metropolitalnych. (abstrakt oryginalny)

The article describes the international academic discourse regarding the administrative and functional organisation of metropolitan areas. The issues discussed constitute the essence of the so-called metropolitan problem and the extensive number of solutions to this problem proposed by various schools of administrative and political thought. The author tracks the thoughts behind metropolitan management in the 20th Century, in particular, presenting the arguments behind the advantages and disadvantages of the individual concepts. The considerations are enhanced by illustrations taken from the experience of European and American metropolitan areas. (original abstract)
