Celem tego artykułu jest zarysowanie sytuacji prawno-politycznej w basenie Morza Południowochińskiego. Szczególny nacisk położony został na przedstawienie tych działań podmiotów międzynarodowych, które miały na celu pozyskanie nowych źródeł energii. (fragment artykułu)

The South China Sea basin is a subject of rivalry of riparian states. Oil and gas resources in the region have not been estimated properly yet. Chinese analysts say that they can contain energy resources comparable with those of Persian Gulf. However, these estimates have not been proved by non-Chinese energy agencies. United Nations Convention of the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) is a legal base for the most of the claims. Countries setup their exclusive economic zones (EEZ) in order to get access to the energy. One of the most interesting conflicts in the region is the one of the Spratly Islands. Most of the countries occupy some of the islands in the archipelago. The South China Sea rivalry has also a global context. Japan and The United States are involved in the region. Stable flow of energy is their primary objective. (original abstract)
