Celem niniejszego artykułu jest zbadanie wpływu ogólnoświatowego kryzysu finansowego lat 2008-2009 na działalność i przeobrażenia w MFW. Autor opracowania skupia swoją uwagę na trzech obszarach: aktywności finansowej, działalności nadzorczej oraz sferze decyzyjnej Funduszu. (fragment artykułu)

The global financial crisis of 2008-2009 has lead to the intensive debate on the activities and the future of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). As a result some initiatives aiming at reforming the institution have emerged and some of them have started to be put into practice. In the area of IMF lending the major changes include: modernizing IMF conditionally, introducing a new Flexible Credit Line and eliminating some other seldom-used facilities, enhancing the flexibility of the IMF's traditional stand-by arrangement, doubling normal access limits for nonconessional resources. The agreement reached in the London Summit of the leaders of the Group of Twenty in April 2009 aims at trebling resources available to the IMF and supports a new SDR allocation. The discussed crisis confirmed shortcomings in the effectiveness of IMF surveillance and limited role of the IMF as a forum for resolving problems regarding global monetary and financial instability. These are intergovernmental groups (e.g. G-20) which tend to be a platform to discuss financial stability issues for major countries. As far as IMF governance is concerned, the global financial crisis of 2008-2009 has turned out to be an occasion for the strongest emerging market and developing countries to demand urgent action with regard to voice and representation in the IMF to better reflect their real economic weight.
