Abstrakty

Przemiany aktywności gospodarczej we współczesnych społeczeństwach można lepiej wyjaśnić nie przez hipotezę o zaniku pracy, lecz poprzez wskazanie pojawienia się czynników, które sprzyjają deformalizacji pracy także w wysoko rozwiniętych społeczeństwach europejskich oraz poprzez wskazania czynników zmieniających granice oddzielające pracę i gospodarkę formalną od pracy i gospodarki nieformalnej. Starano się także odpowiedzieć na pytanie w jaki sposób państwo może wpłynąć na rozmiary nieformalnej pracy.

The author defines the concept of casual work and analyses changes in its empirical forms and also its significance in modern economies. He presents the fundamental factors conducive to the deformalisation of work in modern economies, including structural changes and the rising importance of the service sector. The author shows that the strength of impact of economic factors translates into differentiated dimensions and forms of casual work, depending on the filtering power of cultural factors (professed values and attitudes) and on the instruments the state can use to influence how widespread casual work is. He also shows that this impact should take into account the fact that there exist natural limits to the formalisation of work and that attempts at formalisation may be prohibitively expensive and not very effective.
