In recent years there has been a great deal of interest in prosocial management instruments which could help organizations and their employees to face continuous changes and ambiguity of the environment. Uncertainty of employment and-growing sense of job insecurity are the reasons why the quality of a supervisor-subordinate relationship acquires special importance for creating employee-friendly work environment, simultaneously encouraging performance and employee career success. The notion greatly contributing to the discussed issues is Leader-Member Exchange, which clearly indicates that the awareness shaping good, mutually advantageous relations between supervisors and subordinates may become a useful, prosocial instrument of management allowing to align employees' well-being with organizational success. This paper tries to answer the questions: what is the quality of supervisor-employee relationships in contemporary Polish organizations and in what way can they contribute to employee career success? This goal is achieved by presenting the results of empirical research concerning the relationships between LMX and employees' career success. The results are discussed in the context of changing conditions of the psychological contract between the employee and the employer and of the emerging new career models. (original abstract)
