In this article, the author presents the genesis of modern IT systems aiding management processes in organisations and indicates ways of measuring the effectiveness of their implementation and use. The author looks at the issue of measuring the effectiveness of implementing and using IT systems from two perspectives: implementation as a market undertaking - where implementation is treated by the IT firm as the sale of a product and service, and implementation as an undertaking that streamlines management processes -from the point of view of the entity buying the system, usually with the aim of improving the way the organisation functions. The author devotes particular attention to the need to measure the organisational and socio-psychological effects of implementing advanced IT systems. These areas of measurement are very significant for decision-making processes; however, in practice, the interest of managers is limited to basic economic indicators and technical parameters.
