Abstrakty

Przedstawiono wybrane podejścia do elastyczności rynku pracy. Zamieszczono charakterystykę rynku pracy w Wielkiej Brytanii i w wybranych krajach strefy euro. Stwierdzono, że brytyjski rynek pracy jest w zdecydowanie mniejszym stopniu usztywniony niż rynki krajów strefy euro.

The article focuses on the flexibility of the British labour market, presented against the labour markets of the euro zone member states. The analysis regards also the other countries - thanks to which the Anglo-Saxon model was singled out. It is characterized by exceptionally high flexibility levels. The United Kingdom is a country with a low level of labour markets rigidities, which distinguishes it from the euro zone countries. Since the theory of the optimal currency areas (OCA) does not define, what the "significant" or sufficient" flexibility means - and this is a precondition of the monetary integration success (according to classics of OCA theory) - one can regard this precondition to be fulfilled for the UK.
