NewConnect is an alternative market for trading shares developed by the Warsaw Stock Exchange. The market is regulated by the Exchange itself rather than by the Polish Financial Supervision Authority, which enables small joint-stock companies to get easy access to capital market. The market opened on September 30, 2007 and by January 31, 2008 thirty companies had been traded on NewConnect: they had issued shares worth total 177 min PLN (ranging from 2,5 min PLN to 20 min PLN). The issues of the shares were much easier to conduct than in public offer, but contrary to earlier expectations the costs of emitting of the securities were usualy high. Share prices were volatile: from gain of 500% to 72% loss (from issue price to February 1, 2008). Such volatility indicates that only experienced investors should consider investing on the market.
