For years, numerous experts have been forecasting the development of new forms of organization, which are able to create new ideas, improve organizational know-how, develop its members’ skills, and survive in the complex environment by adapting to unstable conditions. The main goals of the article are to examine the relationships between organizational structure and knowledge management in an organization both in theory and practice, analyze various structural designs in terms of knowledge management efficiency, and identify major organizational stimulators and obstacles to knowledge management. The author formulates the hypothesis that the more organic structure, the more advanced knowledge management system within an organization, i.e. a higher number of various and more sophisticated tools are used in practice. The text is based both on literature studies and the results of the empirical research conducted in 2005 in 131 enterprises from the regions of Lower Silesia and Greater Poland.(original abstract)
