Celem opracowania jest udzielenie odpowiedzi na pytania o stan gotowości systemów informacyjnych przedsiębiorstw do sprostania wymogom identyfikowania i wyjaśniania przyszłych warunków otoczenia. Skuteczne wspieranie informacyjne wyborów strategicznych i szerzej zarządzania strategicznego jest jedyną z możliwości ograniczania kryzysu w przedsiębiorstwach. (fragment tekstu)

The paper focuses on the information systems to support the process of strategic management and corporate strategic choices in particular. Dynamically changing environmental conditions force companies to make adjustments quickly or to anticipate future changes. The lack of adjustment to the changing conditions results in potential and real crises. It is claimed that the awareness of changeability and unpredictability of the environment is inspiring and results in creation of suitable information systems, which, due to their technological advancement, will limit, though not overcome, the uncertainty. In the area of information support of strategic choices, the essential role is attributed to the systems recognising potential chances and development threats. The prerequisite for the functions of monitoring, recognising, explaining and forecasting the environmental changes is a definite level of technological advancement of the systems. The active approach of the company to the environment is influenced, besides the information systems, by the attitude of the management staff to the risk as well as the way of making strategic decisions. The second part of the paper presents selected results of empirical research of determinants implying strategic choices. (original abstract)
