This paper observes potent connections between three areas of institutional framework of the U.S. economy and policies pursued within these institutions: monetary policy of the FED, housing regulations and policies toward the housing sector and finance, as well as the piecemeal regulations of the financial sector. It is within this "unholy triangle" and its interactions with the real economy that both extent and pattern of the crisis has largely been determined. (fragment of text)
