Abstrakty
The theory of economy and empirical studies do not allow determining univocally the factors and barriers of economic growth. The models of economic growth allow to determine variables that influence the rate of real GNP growth to the greatest extent. Unfortunately, these models differ significantly in their assumptions and results. Thus, they do not allow the univocal answer for the question concerning main determinants of a production level. Also some empirical studies focusing on historical development of economy in particular countries and regions are inefficient in precise recognition of the determinant of growth. The economies differ significantly; the sources of successful economic situation are also different in particular countries. Moreover, instability of recognition of determinants of economic growth takes place not only in a cross-sectional plane, it also changes over the time. It poses even more problems with setting the actual determinant of growth. The lack of the univocal answer for the question concerning the main sources of growth means that determining precisely barriers of growth, i.e. the factors hindering economic development, is impossible. On the basis of theoretical models and empirical studies we may only estimate the existing and potential barriers of growth in particular countries, bearing in mind that our conclusion may be burdened with a significant error. The Author presents a review on empirical studies within the range of identification of factors and in turn - barriers of economic growth. These barriers create factors that are negatively correlated with the rate of economic development and which are overextended in a particular country. The potential barrier of growth presents also the shortage of factors positively correlated with the rate of economic development.(original abstract)
