(fragment tekstu)

The development of internet is one of the most spectacular phenomena of our times. After the period of euphoria of the second half of the nineties in the last century when this tool was attributed with extraordinary features, at present we perceive the possibilities of the internet appliance in a much more balanced way. Both its advantages as well as disadvantages are considered. There is a general belief that the optimal one is the complementary appliance of the internet strategies combined with the traditional marketing operation strategies. Internet allows carrying out all marketing operations on the international scale. Implementation of the internet caused development of e-commerce, i.e. sales carried out via World Wide Web network. This concept includes various forms of such commerce - from a simple, static internet service, to the extended systems of making orders and their realization via internet and participation in electronic auctions. The e-commerce in its basic forms allows presentation of the products and making orders, e.g. via fax, telephone or email. It allows customers selection of goods and making payments on-line, without the necessity to be served by personnel. The successive stage of the e-commerce service development is providing a direct aid to the customers in the process of ordering via Internet, due to which they can receive an immediate answer for their requests and clarify all doubts concerning the transaction. The most advanced level of e-commerce is the WWW network enabling the establishment of individual connections with the customers, reflecting their preferences. The importance of e-commerce and its pace are confirmed by turnover and profits of the e-commerce sector companies. In 2004, 61% of the internet users in the USA took advantage of making purchases via internet, the respective rate in the Western Europe comprised 49%. The on-line sales value in the USA was estimated on 66 billion dollars, while in Europe it amounted to 38 billion Euro. When analysing the changes that took place in the activities of marketing enterprises due to the increasing use of internet, the author focuses on: establishment and development of e-markets, development of de-intermediation and re-intermediation processes, and appearance of a new type of business intermediaries functioning in the internet.
