Abstrakty

Współczesne dyskusje na temat szkolnictwa wyższego w Polsce, regulacji formalno-prawnych wyznaczających ramy jego funkcjonowania, a także praktycznych rozwiązań na poziomie poszczególnych uczelni, koncentrują się wokół zaleceń sformułowanych w deklaracjach i komunikatach Procesu Bolońskiego. Pomimo że owe dokumenty nie mają mocy prawnej, będąc jedynie politycznymi deklaracjami przedstawicieli państw członkowskich Unii Europejskiej oraz innych państw europejskich uczestniczących w Procesie Bolońskim, pojawiające się w nich zalecenia są stopniowo wprowadzane w życie. Studiom doktoranckim, stanowiącym trzeci, najwyższy poziom kształcenia, poświęca się w Procesie Bolońskim sporo uwagi. Nowy model studiów doktoranckich, będący w Polsce w trakcie realizacji, jest bezpośrednim rezultatem ustaleń bolońskich. (fragment tekstu)

In the past few years there has been a reconstruction of the system of doctoral studies in Poland and as a result a new model of such studies is now emerging. It is based on the model developed in the Bologna Process and corresponds to a certain degree to the American system of doctoral studies. Americanization is a noticeable trend within the so called European Higher Education Area. Although it is reasonable to follow the American example and even copy some institutional inventions - the practice justified by a good condition of American doctoral studies - it must be said that not all components of this system are worth following in Europe. On the other hand, there are traditional values cultivated in European higher education institutions which should not be ignored in the name of American solutions. In this article I discuss the transformations of the Polish system of doctoral studies against a background of changes which have taken place in Europe and USA. Among the fundamental problems and challenges faced by contemporary doctoral studies are the following: the quality of doctoral studies and doctoral dissertations, an emerging distinction between professional doctorates and research doctorates, a high dropout rate, employment of doctoral degree holders, interdisciplinary doctoral programmes.
