Enterprises work in a wide, unstable, close and more distant environment. One of the elements of the latter is monetary policy. The subject of this article is the relations between the central bank and firms, i.e. the influence of the central banks Instruments (mainly short-term nominał interest rates) on the functioning of firms. The article presents another aspect - the impact of monetary policy (price stability) on enterprises. The main aim of this article is to show a definition of price stability in Poland and to examine its influence on firms. Its advantage is transparency and practical usefulness. The second part outlines a theoretical aspect of the relation between price stability and firms. Some opportunities and threats are pointed out. Parts l and 2 determine a theoretical background for empirical analyses under point 3. In this part the definition of price stability used by the National Bank of Poland is presented along with an attempt to examine its influence on the functioning of firms in Poland.
