Abstrakty

Celem artykułu jest określenie siły i kierunku wpływu koniunktury gospodarczej na sytuację na rynku pracy oraz weryfikacja prawa Okuna dla wybranych krajów Unii Europejskiej. Zakres przestrzenny obejmuje następujące kraje: Austrię, Belgię, Czechy, Danię, Finlandię, Francję, Holandię, Hiszpanię, Irlandię, Niemcy, Polskę, Słowację, Szwecję, Wielką Brytanię i Węgry. Analizę empiryczną przeprowadzono na podstawie danych kwartalnych od pierwszego kwartału 1993 roku do pierwszego kwartału 2008 roku. (fragment tekstu)

The aim of the paper was to evaluate the power and directions of the business cycle influence on the labor market situation and to verify Okun's law for the selected European Union countries in the years 1993-2008. The theoretical concepts which explain how the business cycle influences the rate of unemployment were presented. The empirical analysis helped to evaluate the power, directions, and how changes in the industrial production and the GDP influence the rate of unemployment in the selected European countries. The business cycle influences the rate of unemployment three quarters in advance. The deviation of the real GDP by about l percentage point above the trend in most the analyzed countries contributes to the decrease of the rate of unemployment from 0,25 to 0,45 percentage point.
