According to "The six-month programme of the Polish Presidency in the EU Council in the second half of 2011", adopted by the Polish Council of Ministers on 15 March 2011, Poland, during its presidency in the European Union Council, would like to finalise the accession negotiations with Croatia and sign the Treaty of Accession with this country. It will extend the zone of European values and regulations as well as size of the internal market. The EU accession negotiations with Croatia have entered their final phase and there are only 5 chapters to be closed. The integration process unfolds not as quick as expected, and the date when negotiations could be concluded is still receding. Thus, there is concern if Polish presidency can carry out its plan in this respect. The article presents the course of accession negotiations between the European Union and Croatia as well as the European Commission's assessment on the progress made by Croatia on its way towards EU membership, reported to the Council and Parliament in November 2010 and March 2011. Moreover, it includes information on bilateral trade relations and financial assistance provided to Croatia in order to help it adapt to the Copenhagen accession criteria.
