Omówiono motywy emigracji. Podano dane dotyczące krajów atrakcyjnych dla migrantów. Przedstawiono pozytywne i negatywne efekty międzynarodowych migracji ludności.

During the globalisation era there is an increasing pressure to emigrate from less developed countries to more developed ones in search of jobs and better living conditions. The debate on international migration cannot be limited only to an analysis and assessment of benefits and losses from that movement of people worldwide both from the point of view of receiving countries and those countries from which people emigrate. In order to regulate the international migrations it is important to know motives for emigration and preferences concerning the most desired destinations. Recently fewer people have been trying to leave their home country. According to the Gallup's data, at the beginning of 2011 about 14% of the world's adults would be interested in migrating to another country if they had the opportunity. That is down from 16% of adults who expressed the same desire in 2007. The desire to emigrate decreased for residents of every part of the world except for North America and the European Union. The biggest decline was recorded in Sub-Saharan Africa, although the share of people wanting to move is still high there: 33% in 2008-2010 versus 28% in 2007-2009. These declines are signs of improving economic and political conditions in the developing world. Those trends may also be explained by greater economic uncertainty worldwide, which would make emigration riskier than usual. (original abstract)
