The paper provides a broad perspective of the European labour unions' transnational coordination activities from the completion of the Single Market Programme until the recent date. It describes how these activities developed as a result of the structural transformations occurred in the economic integration process of the European Union. The picture seems to suggest that, even though many procedural problems and national diversities are present, European labour unions attempt to adjust their coordination activities according to the rule that industrial relations follow the market structures.
