The paper presents an analysis of the relations between organizations and the application of the helpful business tool of the ecosystem model. In this article the ecosystem definition has been provided, and the ecosystem's participants have been characterized. The fundamental significance in the understanding of the mutual relations among enterprises and the effects of these connections comes from the theory of complexity. The main part in complexity theory is played by the complex adaptive system characterized by self-organization, co-evolution and emergence. These attributes also apply to the business ecosystem. The implementation of a specific strategy by an organization should be preceded by an interaction analysis among business ecosystem organizations. The development or survival on the market can be ensured by collective strategies. Singling out an organization in the business ecosystem whose activities are decisive may be crucial in redefining the strategy. (original abstract)
