Abstrakty

Celem artykułu jest prezentacja poglądów wybranych ekonomistów na temat zaproponowanej przez Dooleya, Folkerts-Landau i Garbera koncepcji tzw. nieformalnego systemu Bretton Woods II. Założenia tej koncepcji oraz wybrane przejawy funkcjonowania Bretton Woods II zostały przedstawione w pierwszej części artykułu. Drugą część opracowania poświęcono uwagom krytycznym wobec koncepcji Dooleya i in. Na podstawie analizy zaprezentowanej literatury światowej można wyciągnąć wniosek, że choć koncepcja Bretton Woods II zyskała szeroki rozgłos, to jest uznawana przez część ekonomistów za niewłaściwą interpretację rzeczywistości gospodarczej. Głównym obszarem krytyki jest założenie o trwałości obecnych powiązań gospodarczych. Wydaje się, że koncepcja Bretton Woods II pozostanie jednak ważnym tematem w dyskusji ekonomistów, biorąc pod uwagę prognozy rozwoju sytuacji w bilansie płatniczym krajów azjatyckich oraz Stanów Zjednoczonych. The aim of the paper is to present major opinions concerning the concept of Bretton Woods II proposed by Dooley, Folkerts-Landau and Garber. The first section depicts assumptions of Bretton Woods II concept and its manifestation in the balance of payments of selected economic regions. The second section describes some views of the critics of Bretton Woods II. Based on the analysis of the world literature, one can formulate a conclusion that although the concept is very influential and widely analysed among economists, some of them regard it as wrong and misleading. The critics undermine especially the notion of the system's longevity. It seems that Bretton Woods II concept will still be widely discussed in the future, taking into account forecasts of the current account development path in the Unites States and the South East Asia.
