Inspiracją do napisania pracy stała się tocząca się od ponad 20 lat dyskusja dotycząca spójności obszaru tematycznego oraz znaczenia SIZ dla teorii i praktyki gospodarczej. Dyskusja ta ma charakter wieloaspektowy, jednak w istocie ogranicza się do dwóch zasadniczych zagadnień. Pierwszym jest określenie istoty i roli, jaka pełni pojęcie teorii w SIZ, które jako obszar nauk stosowanych SA przede wszystkim powołane do rozwiązywania problemów praktyki. Drugie związane jest z określeniem spójnego i niezmiennego rdzenia tematycznego SIZ, które jako obszar w bardzo dużym stopniu uzależniony od zmian technologicznych charakteryzuje się zmiennością szczegółowej tematyki badawczej. W rozdziale pierwszym dokonano krótkiej charakterystyki obszaru SIZ w ujęciu społeczno-technicznym oraz wskazano, że SIZ charakteryzują się dużym stopniem wewnętrznego zróżnicowania. Rozdział drugi poświęcono prezentacji podstawowych zagadnień należących do obszarów metodologicznych stanowiących bazę do skonstruowania szczegółowych metod badawczych służących realizacji celów pracy. Struktura rozdziału trzeciego odpowiada podstawowym etapom metodyki EAT, tj. pozyskaniu, ujednoliceniu, transformacji i analizie. Rozdział czwarty stanowi opis realizacji zdefiniowanych zadań badawczych, takich jak: identyfikacja i systematyka podstawowych teorii stosowanych w SIZ, określenie kierunków związanych i łączeniem teorii pochodzących z dziedzin pokrewnych w celu wyjaśniania zjawisk zachodzących na gruncie SIZ, określenie trendów dotyczących szczegółowej tematyki badawczej, jak również wpływu zmian szczegółowej tematyki badawczej na zachowanie spójnego rdzenia tematycznego SIZ. The main aim of the book is to identify the status and growth of IS in the period 1977-2006, with reference to theoretical aspects of this area of knowledge. The work was inspired by discussion of the significance of IS for practice in the IS community over the past 20 years and is called by some IS scholars 'anxiety discourse'. Although this discourse is multifaceted, it is limited to two main issues. The first is to define the essence and role of theory in IS, which as an area of applied science, should solve the problems addressed by the practice. The second is to identify the thematic core of IS, which due to the constantly changing technological environment is characterised by significant variations in specific research themes over a given period of time. The book also has a pragmatic dimension. It allows readers to familiarise themselves with research trends that arose between 1977 and 2006 and couple them with the most frequently used research approaches and specific theories. Such knowledge may be useful when designing research in both theoretical and practical dimensions where a wide range of IS issues come into play. The aim of the book has determined its four-chapter structure. The first chapter briefly examines the characteristics of IS from a socio-technical perspective. The second chapter presents methodological issues from bibliometrics, text mining and information retrieval, three disciplines used as the foundation for constructing specific research methods. The structure of the third chapter is related to the main phases of text mining methodology: retrieval, standardisation, transformation and analysis. Using the empirical material and specific research tools described in the third chapter, the fourth chapter describes in detail how the research was performed and the questions answered. In the conclusion, the research results are presented and explained from the perspective of the conceptual interdisciplinary model of IS. The research seeks to determine the extent to which the field of IS may be treated as scientifically legitimate. (fragment of text)
