W opracowaniu problem odwracania tendencji do skracania okresu pracy zawodowej w ciągu życia w krajach Unii Europejskiej jest przedstawiony w aspekcie danych dotyczących kształtowaniu się aktywności zawodowej w okresie przedemerytalnym oraz celów do osiągnięcia i kierunków polityki prowadzonej w UE, dylematów i barier, a także reform podejmowanych dotychczas w poszczególnych krajach, aby wydłużyć okres pracy zawodowej. The article of Zofia Czajka examines a question of active ageing in one its bearing - prolonging working lives. Demographic and economic reasons contribute to the need to extension of professional activity - over the next two decades the number of Europeans in the 20-49 band will fall while the number in the 50-64 and 65 and over group will increase. An increasingly older population creates considerable pressures on pensions. The author presents the European targets of increasing the employment rate of people aged 55-64, of raising average exit ages from labor market and discuses the dilemmas and obstacles in achieving these goals. Increasing of labor participation all relevant groups: young people, women and also older workers and prolonging working lives will be crucial for ensuring the future financial sustainability of pension systems and for guaranteeing adequate level incomes for future pensioners in the EU. Now the real retirement age in all countries in the UE is lower then the state retirement age. An increasing of labor participation of older people and extension of professional activity requires applying different measures. A lot of number of Member States are implementing national ageing strategies - some of them are presented in the article. The paper is concluded by some remarks concerning the conditions necessary for retaining workers longer in employment. They focuses on promoting access to training for older workers and developing lifelong learning strategies. (original abstract)
