The Business Register and Employment Survey (BRES) will replace and integrate two existing ONS surveys: the Annual Business Inquiry, used to produce annual employment estimates, and the Business Register Survey, used to maintain the ONS's business register, the IDBR. In this chapter author outlines the methodological changes, describes new sample design and presents the evolution plan developed to access each of the changes. The statistical issues that will arise in the evaluation are also discussed.
