(fragment tekstu)

The role of health has gained the new importance together with the emergence of the endogenous growth theory. According to this theory, one of the determinants of economic growth is human capital. Health and education are the basic elements of its quality. Health determines labour productivity, physical, emotional and intellectual development of workers, conditions the average length of life, and the effects of its influence can be observed both at the individual level and at the level of the whole economy. In the research presented in the article, an attempt was made to verify the hypothesis, that health influences economic outcomes, measured as individual's income. The data used in the analysis come from Diagnoza społeczna 2007. The estimated function is based on the Mincerian wages equation, with the dependent variable being the log of personal income. Among the explanatory variables there are variables connected with the respondents health (self-assessment of health or disability). The results confirm the positive impact of health on the personal income achieved by the respondents. (original abstract)
