The Impact of Tourism on Sales as Exemplified by Zakopane

W artykule podjęto próbę zbadania współzależności pomiędzy wydatkami turystów na różne artykuły a elementami charakteryzującymi ich pobyt w miejscowości turystycznej. Przeprowadzona na potrzeby tych badań ankieta dostarczyła danych, które zinterpretowano przy pomocy modelu ekonometrycznego.
The article is an attempt to investigate the impact of different forms of tourism on sales by means of econometric models. Two kinds of data were used in the investigation, viz. the results of questionaries concerning the tourists' expenditures together with factors determining them (the data were obtained during personal interviews with tourists staying in Zakopane) and statistical data concerning the retail sales and tourism in Zakopane in 48 months (in the years 1968 - 1971). On the basis of the obtained results models for individual expenditures in particular forms of tourism (collective excursions, individual outings, organized summer holidays and private ones) were made. Fourteen of explanatory variables were taken into account, five of them for quantitative features such as the overall number of the days of stay and days already spent there, the number of persons, including children accompanying the investigated persons, the planned volume of expenditures and nine variables for qualitative features such as sex, age, legal status and profession. On the basis of the time series were made models of the sales in four branches (groceries, clothes, shoes and sports articles). They included seven explanatory variables, from which four concerned particular types of tourist activity measured by the number of the lodgings per person and three variables showing the sales during particular seasons.
