In the first part of the article the rate of growth of industrial production and foreign trade in selected capitalist and socialist countries are shown. In the capitalist countries the rate of growth of production in the 1960 - 1971 reveals the falling tendency. Simultaneously in this period external exchange of commodities expands. This means that still larger part of industrial production was devoted for export. In the socialist countries the of growth of external exchange is not that big, hence decreasing share of socialist countries in the word trade, which is refferred to in the second part of the paper. As far as the structure of the world trade in the 1960 is concerned one observes decreasing share of three first commodity groups: food products, raw-materials and energy. On the other hand the share of manufactured products increased. Among the industrial products the lead take machines. Their share increased from 20,6% in 1980 to 20,8 % in 1970. This is very important information for Polish foreign trade in which the role of machines, particularly in exports, still leaves much to be desired. As far as the geographical structure of the world trade is concerned (the second part of the paper) it informs us that the share of socialist countries in the word trade is small and moreover still shows falling tendency. In the last part of the article is shown, how all kinds of impediments are devised in capitalist countries in order not to enable the entry of some foreign products the given market. In the field of industrial products in this respect lead USA and Japan, whereas in the field of agricultural products Western-European countries members of European Economic Community. All the restrictions applied in the trade between capitalist countries are as well practised towards socialist countries. Even more, in trade with socialist countries western contracting parties very often apply non-tariff restrictions as additional obstacles. Some socialist countries being in almost conpulsory situation have to agree with all these impediments which undoubtedly influence also profitability of their exports. In the capitalist countries many objections are raised towards contracting parties of socialist countries. In this paper an attitude is assumed toward this objections pretty thoroughly.
