After the presentation of concentration measurement methodology, results of empirical research of imports and exports commodity concentration were given. Using Hirschman-Michaely's formula, exports and imports commodity concentration coefficients for 50 countries were calculated, covering 4/5 of the world trade. By regression analysis the relationship between exports commodity concentration, as dependent variable, unddevelopment level (measured by the GNP per capita value) and country size (measured by number of inhabitants), as independent variables, was established. Results show that the higher commodity concentration, the smaller and less developed is the country. About 40% of exports commodity concentration coefficient variation may be explained by development level and 16% by country size. (original abstract)
