Land is the main means of agricultural production, and its resources determine produntion potential and the economic power of farms. Land tenancy is an effective way to a rapid increase in farm area. After 1989, in Poland, land tenancy has increased; since it has become the main form of managing land which previously had belonged to former state farms. Furthermore, it makes up the resources of land belonging to the farmer. Mainly, the owners of the big farms lease the land. However, the amount of leased land from the State Treasury Resources is gradually decreasing, which is due to the selling and handing over the land for community purposes or reforestation. There arę different way s of paying the tenancy rent, but the most frequent is with money. The amount of money also varies significantly according to the leased area, quality of the soil, the year and the season in which an agreement was signed and the spatial arrangement of the land.
