Some Remarks on Three Axes of Organizational Complexity in Relation to MIS Development

The paper deals with the problems of the three-dimensional management organizational structure with reference to the work of Targowski uho created several management Information systems for Polish engineering industry. Dealing mainly with the costs of Information system development he shows that the managerial system regarding an organizational unit is several times cheaper than the integrated system of data processing which includes a group of organizational units as a computer-based group system. Notwithstanding certain simplifications connected with the so-called l nation-wide systems, often criticized in the papers, it is possible to create a more precise classification, though more difficult and complex, based on three dimensions (axes) of organizational complexity. Additionally, a tripartite (instead of bipartite) classification of information systems may be proposed. This is the main aim of the suggested conceptions.(original abstract)
