This paper presents the results of the own studies conducted in 2008 on 229 smalland medium- sized manufacturing companies from the different businesses. The objective of this study was to analyse the impact of selected elements of environment on the character of the relationship of tested enterprises with their main suppliers. The analysis and evaluation included the size of the tested enterprises, the size of the selected elements, as well as the degree of the changeability of the element - fundamentally unchanging or changing significantly over time. Modified contingency tables were used to perform quantitative verifications, whereas to perform qualitative verifications, a nonparametrical Chi-square test, as well as a non-parametrical equivalent of the singlefactor variance analysis, Kruskal-Wallis test, was used.
