Social Perception of the Post-1989 Transformations in Poland

EN

The discussion of public attitudes towards the economic transition taking place in Poland since 1989 has been confined to a general assessment of the transformations, the changes within the social structure and, finally, the privatization process. More than a dozen years on since the beginning of the transformations, public opinion surveys reveal a degree of uncertainty about their results (a large percentage of people refrain from comment) as well as greater anxiety than hope. Social changes engender resistance among both individuals and social groups, since every change in the organization of social life, the economy, and the political system, results in a modification of the social status and roles of those very individuals and groups.
