Opracowanie stara się zgłębić przyczynę luki rozwojowej między krajami Unii a Wielkopolską w aspekcie gospodarki opartej na wiedzy oraz pokazać, na ile ma ona uazsadnienie i wiąże się z poziomem innowacyjności regionu oraz skalą i charakterem rozwoju jego sektora B+R w przededniu wejścia do struktur europejskich.(fragment tekstu)

The goal of the work is to identify and to search for the roots of the development gap between Wielkopolska and European Union referring to the knowledge-based economy. Thus, the paper focuses on two questions: 1) what are the innovation and modernity levels of the region's economy referring to the available statistical data, regarding its branch, size and ownership structure and compared to the Poland's and EU economy? 2) what is the potential and SWOT of the R&D sector as compared to the country and European levels? In addition, the main problems affecting the science-economy cooperation ( or its lack) arising from the inquire are presented. The measures which are to be taken to correct the science-economy relations and links in the region and to increase the competitiveness and dynamics of the latter are indicated. (original abstract)
