Abstrakty

Istotnym niebezpieczeństwem w przewozie ładunków masowych jest upłynnianie, które zależy, podczas dynamicznych warunków transportu morskiego, od wielu czynników. W celu oceny możliwości załadunku koncentratów rud metali (zdolnych do upłynniania) do transportu morskiego określa się ich wybrane parametry jakościowe. Upłynnianiu można zapobiegać przez wprowadzenie marginesu bezpieczeństwa, polegającego na ograniczeniu wilgotności ładunku, ponieważ upłynnianie nie następuje, gdy stopień nasycenia wodą jest niski. Aby zapobiec pojawieniu się niekorzystnych, zagrażających bezpieczeństwu ładunku i statku procesów, podczas transportu koncentratów rud metali, dodawano do nich materiały skrobiowe. Absorbują one wodę z przestrzeni między cząstkami koncentratu, co powoduje, obniżenie ich wilgotności. W konsekwencji materiał skrobiowy zapobiega drenażowi (odprowadzaniu) wody z porów między cząsteczkami, ślizganiu i przesuwaniu się koncentratów rud w ładowni. (abstrakt oryginalny)

There are several criterions which influence on safety transportation of mineral concentrates. Many factors would determine the shifting and liquefaction, such as the cargo environment and the physical variables. Both sliding and liquefaction are very dangerous. The events may take place gradually, giving a ship's master time to compensate for a shift in cargo and head for a nearest port or they may occur so rapidly that there is insufficient time to send off a distress signal before the vessel and crew are lost. Despite the recent regulations and guidelines, the safety of solid bulk cargoes remains dubious, as bulk carriers continue to structural failure. The liquefaction phenomenon is deeply related to the characteristics of drainage of water. To minimize the risk of mineral concentrate shifting, due to liquefaction, the starch materials were added to the cargo. Taking into consideration the results of the tests it can be said that tested concentrates in mixture with starch materials are liable to liquefy. Polymer materials based on starch can be used as absorbers of water from mineral concentrates, before the transportation by sea. These materials are particularly attractive because they are based on natural renewable resources, which are environmentally friendly. The result of the tests indicate that presence of starch significantly influences on properties of the concentrates, important from the point of view of sea transport safety. (original abstract)
