Badanie bezrobocia na obszarze województwa zachodniopomorskiego, które przeprowadziła autorka pozwoliło ustalić, iż poziom bezrobocia kobiet jest wyraźnie wyższy niż mężczyzn przy czym stosunkowo najniższy odsetek bezrobotnych występuje wśród ludności z wykształceniem wyższym. Charakterystyczne jest także to, iż poziom bezrobocia na obszarach wiejskich znacznie przekracza poziom bezrobocia w miastach. (fragment tekstu)

The article analyses dynamics and differentiation in the level of unemployment in Zachodnio-Pomorskie province. This analysis made it possible to follow the changes which have taken place in the studied area since the socio-economic transformation began. Four years ago a new administrative division of Poland was introduced. Due to this fact retrospective observations of the labour market within the area of the present Zachodnio-Pomorskie province were possible only thanks to the use of statistical information at the commune level. To do this, the indicator of registered unemployment was used because in the case of de-aggregation of data on registered unemployment at the commune level this indicator is the only one to characterize the intensity of unemployment. The author used statistical data on unemployment and population obtained from Statistical Offices in Szczecin, Gorzów Wlkp., Koszalin, Piła and Słupsk. Moreover, the analysis of the dynamics and differentiation in the level of unemployment was carried out among the groups of population distinguished on the basis of socio-demographic features. Additionally the author studied the structure of the unemployed with regard to the above-mentioned features and its link with the level of unemployment. During the studies it was shown, among others, that the level of unemployment in the rural areas of the province considerably exceeded the level of unemployment in towns. In all the years under analysis the level of female unemployment was higher than that of male unemployment. The share of unemployed women decreases along with the growth of unemployment intensity which is connected with the increase in the level of unemployed men. On the other hand unemployment rates decrease along with the growth of age. A high level of unemployment is related to a small share of the unemployed university graduates. This results from the fact that in the communes with a difficult labour market a university diploma protects people against unemployment. (original abstract)
