The article presents two case studies of the post-industrial cities, Katowice and Bytom in Poland focusing on recognition of the research problem related to evaluation of resilience level. The case of Katowice reveals that its social and economic development in the 20th century was due to development of heavy industry. It informs that the case of Bytom shows that the economic transformations has deeply affected the town's situation.(original abstract)
